Composing has become an important part of my life as a guitarist.
Teaching, practising, arranging, performing, composing...
I need all of these ingredients in my musical life!
During my fusion and rock days I always composed original material for the different bands that I led.
Composing for theatre and videos was easy and I found no problems at all doing "jingles" or composing the intro to a newsshow etc.
To write for sologuitar... that was a real problem!
In fact I never - apart from one or two youthful sins - even tried.
Everything changed when my daughters started playing the cello/violin. I started writing small technical exercises - in the shape of fun and attractive pieces - for them.
If I could do it for the cello and the violin, of course I could do it for the guitar!
Said and done, I wrote "Eight short pieces" in a couple of days.
The barrier was broken!
At the moment I try to keep my pieces rather short and not too difficult as they initially where intended for teaching purposes.
That being said, I see no problems whatsoever in including them in a concert program as the music itself is really enjoyable!
